During my most recent trip to the grocery store, I picked up a pomegranate. I wasn’t sure why at the time and I’m still not certain to this very moment. Maybe it was on sale, maybe I was feeling adventurous. When you have a never ending supply of blogs and other food related media at your…

Fueling a Fat Yoga Body- A Few of My Kitchen Staples
I don’t count calories, I don’t do weight watchers, and I don’t follow any specific dietary guidelines. I just eat what makes me feel good. Sometimes cheese fries make me feel good. Sometimes green monster smoothies with chia seeds make me feel good. Mostly I try not to think about food- my relationship with it has been surprisingly epic considering my young age, and I really think most of that relationship has been overly dramatic.
Ok, so I know you’re looking at these two non-dairy milks and you’re like “this hipster bitch….” but HEAR ME OUT- I don’t know if you know this, but American mass produced cow’s milk is sketchy. I’m not going into detail about it (actually, if you want more detail you should read Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma- it’ll gross you out and knock your socks off at the same time), but I try to steer clear of the stuff whenever possible*. Anyway, almond milk and coconut milk are the fucking jam- they cost essentially the same amount as cow’s milk without nearly as many potential bodily toxins. I’m not going to say they taste like cow’s milk- that would be an unnecessary lie. They will, however, taste just fine on your cereal and in your coffee. When I can afford it, I love buying locally produced cow’s milk from the farmer’s market but I’m not in the upper-middle class/Whole Foods/Lululemon yoga bunch- I’m a real person with a real budget, and that doesn’t always involve the farmer’s market, ya dig?
*It’s hard to steer completely clear of mass produced cow’s milk when you are a verifiable macaroni and cheese addict.
I think I’ve finally reached the point in my life where I have to accept that fruits and vegetables have to be a major part of my daily diet. I won’t be in my mid-20s forever, and it’s really important to fully absorb the importance of vitamins and minerals NOW. I tend to follow the seasons when it comes to vegetation- right now, Brussels sprouts, apples, and kale are where it’s at, and I’ve been throwing diced butternut squash in most of my dishes.
My dual love of tofu and bacon is vast and unwavering- I love both of them, and I refuse to give up either one. Mostly, I refuse to stop eating bacon. Legit, my daily diet would be largely vegetarian were it not for my bacon addiction. And yes, addiction is the right word. I love tofu for its versatility and texture- it tastes awesome baked, fried, and sauteed. However, I am a firm believer that nothing tastes like bacon- I’ve tasted many credible substitutes, most of which are pretty tasty. However, if anyone ever tells you vegan or vegetarian bacon substitutes taste like real bacon, it is likely that they are a bold faced liar who can’t be trusted.
I love roasted cauliflower, and I love goat cheese, so marrying the two sounds just about perfect. via Food52.com:
Today: Cauliflower becomes centerpiece, and a stunning vegetarian main is born.
As you already know, cauliflower takes well to roasting. All those clammy, starchy crevices get nutty and sweet and come into their own — catching oils, crisping, browning, basking.
But here’s a twist: you don’t even need to floret it first. Like a chicken, a cauliflower is roastable by design.
"I started making the whole roasted cauliflower two years ago after returning from a trip to Israel." Shaya wrote to me. "Fried cauliflower with yogurt is a very classic dish there. I loved that dish so much that I wanted to recreate it in a way that showed off the beauty of the whole vegetable."
